The University of Vermont’s Morphology, Evolution and Cognition Laboratory director looks to the future of machines in his talk “Reckless Ideas: Creating Autonomous Yet Safe Robots.” This session is the first in the “Reckless Ideas” series developed by Generator, in conjunction with UVM’s Complex Systems Center.
Says Bongard of his talk: “The robot revolution is upon us: autonomous cars are almost ready to drive our streets, and drones are almost ready to deliver packages right to our doorstep. For the first time, this will bring people into close contact with complex, autonomous machines. How do we ensure that these machines are still free to make decisions as they navigate our world but not harm people in the process? In this talk, I will describe how my research group is trying to do just this using a crowdsourcing and gaming platform called TwitchPlaysRobotics.”
